Though the story depicts a fairly innocuous display of autism, which may mislead some readers about the disorder, the main focus is on the development of sensitivity in the other students. Dunbar's childlike paintings cleverly show how Louis is essentially the same as the other kids-he could be any one of the boys in the class, until the artwork focuses more closely on him. Though most adults will quickly catch on that Louis is autistic (a clinical psychologist's note at the end, addressed to adults, explains about autism), children might not fully grasp the situation. But that may not matter much, as the story is more about creative kindness and inclusion than it is about autism; it's really a big-hearted example of persistence and compassion, and little ones won't have a problem understanding that. The Hiding Place by Corrie ten Boom is one of my all-time favorite books. I was excited when I found this book as a way to introduce my children to her. I thought the authors did a great job in helping young children understand what an amazing woman she is!Corrie and her family lived in Holland. They helped the Jews escape the Nazis and were eventually caught. She and her sister were sent to live in a concentration camp. It was a difficult time and there were tears in our eyes as we read certain parts. One of the things that surprised me the most when I first read her story was her age--she was actually in her 50's when she was caught. Her story is filled with miracles, faith and forgiveness, and is one that will inspire people of all ages!

I purchased this book for my son after he finished the book about Brother Andrew in the same series (Christian Heroes: Then & Now). All the books in this series give kids a wonderful introduction and overview of the lives of those who have dedicated their lives to serving God.I had read The Hiding Place this year, and after discussing it with my family, my son told me he wanted to read it. I was a bit hesitant, since there were some parts of the book which might be a little traumatic or descriptive for a young reader. So I was thrilled to find Corrie ten Boom: Keeper of the Angels' Den.This book was perfect. It told the story of Corrie ten Boom in an age-appropriate, but still accurate manner. My son was amazed at all Corrie and her family did to help others, and all they were willing to give up in order to do what they felt God wanted them to do.I highly recommend this book, and others in the Christian Heroes series.

We've now read several of the books in this series, and have loved every one of them so far. This book is no different. We used this book as a read-aloud for my 2nd-grader, and both of us got so wrapped up in the story, that we set aside the rest of our schoolwork for several days so we could finish the story!This story, in particular, touches my heart. Ever since I was a child, I would think about the victims of the Holocaust any time I had a particularly bad day, just to remember how blessed I am to live in this day and age. These stories are helping my children, now, to realize how blessed we are--that our discomforts and disappointments are nothing compared to what so many other people have and are experiencing. The lesson in this story, "There is no pit so deep that God's love is not deeper," still rings true today. I hope this book made a firm impression on my daughter, so that when she faces tough times, she will trust in the faithfulness of God and His love for her.

Powerful and amazing and heart-gripping. I read this out loud to my kids and we all were so moved and touched and impacted by it!!

This book will inspire you and teach young and old that God can do extraordinary and marvelous things even in bleak and terrifying surroundings.Corrie Ten Boom was an ordinary watchmaker's daughter when her family was arrested for helping Jewish people escape the Nazi's. They were taken to prison and suffered greatly under the hands of their captors. Yet Corrie and her sister always looked towards God and where thankful for all of the blessings he gave them, such as a patch of blue sky, a hidden Bible, the women they read the Bible too. This book tells the story of Corrie and how she survived the war and went on to help others by telling them about God's love and forgiveness. Corrie learned a lot from her prison experience, but most of all, Corrie learned that by leaning on God, she can share God's love and forgiveness to all, even to her enemies and those who hurt her.

This magnificently written Christian biography book is perfect for a book report, particularly for a student who attends Christian private school or who is homeschooled (as my 13 year old son). Corrie ten Boom truly went through hell on earth just to satisfy God in Heaven; when it is my time to go, she is one of the many individuals I would love to meet when I get there! Should you read this book, prepare your heart (and perhaps a hankie). My opinion, not enough stars to rate it! :-)

all the books that i have read written by Ms. Ten Boom are inspirational and awe inspiring...the things that God did in and through her are amazing. What a beautiful woman of faith she was.

Inspiring and instructive about how totalitarianism works. Keeps your attention. The audible version was worth the extra few dollars. Very engaging and yet professionally done.

About the Author
Andrew Barker is Emeritus Professor of Classics at the University of Birmingham. He has been researching in the field of ancient Greek music and musical theory since the 1970s, and has published six books (including The Science of Harmonics in Classical Greece (Cambridge University Press, 2007) and a great many articles on these topics. He is the Founding President of the International Society for the Study of Greek and Roman Music (Moisa), and Editor of the journal Greek and Roman Musical Studies.

About the Author

John O. Spengler, JD, PhD, is a professor and director of the University of Florida's Sport Policy and Research Collaborative. Spengler received his bachelor's degree from Wake Forest University, his law degree from the University of Toledo, and his PhD from Indiana University. His research focuses on legal and policy issues relevant to sport and recreation, obesity prevention and physical activity, and structural environmental factors (social and physical) that influence health. Spengler's research has been funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation to study policies relevant to improving opportunities for physical activity. He is a volunteer with the American Heart Association, where his research has informed AHA policy and advocacy efforts at the state and national level to improve community health through physical activity. Spengler's work has been published in numerous journals, books, and commissioned research papers and presented through webinars, panels, and professional presentations. He also received the Fame for Fitness Award from the Florida Sports Hall of Fame in recognition of his work on childhood obesity prevention, the University of Toledo School of Law Order of the Coif Jurisprudence Award, and SHAPE America's Distinguished Scholar award. He is a research fellow for both the SHAPE America Research Consortium and the Sport and Recreation Law Association. Spengler resides in Gainesville, Florida. He enjoys sports and outdoor activities. Paul M. Anderson, JD, is the associate director of the National Sports Law Institute of Marquette University Law School in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He is also associate director and professor in the sport law program at Marquette University Law School, the most comprehensive and advanced sport law program in the world. He has taught, written, and consulted on all areas of sport law for the past two decades. As part of his role in the National Sports Law Institute, Anderson researches all areas of sport law and coordinates multiple publications for the sport industry, including annual surveys devoted to developments in the field. He has written numerous books, book chapters, articles, and other publications related to various areas of sport law. In his law practice, Anderson has represented many clients in the sport industry. Anderson is co-faculty advisor to the Marquette Sports Law Review, former editor of the Journal of Legal Aspects of Sport, and managing editor of the Journal of Sport and Social Issues. He is a reviewer for the Journal of Legal Aspects of Sport, Communication and Sport, and International Sports Law Journal. He is past chair of the Sports and Entertainment Law section of the State Bar of Wisconsin. Anderson is a member of the Sport and Recreation Law Association, the Sports Lawyers Association, American Bar Association's Forum on the Entertainment & Sports Industries, and the International Association of Sports Law. In 2008, Anderson received the Faculty Advisor of the Year Award from the Marquette Moot Court Association. He also received the President's Award from the Sport and Recreation Law Association in 2005 and was awarded the Sports Law Alumnus of the Year Award from the Sports Law Alumni Association of Marquette University Law School in 2003. In 2002 he received a Leadership Award from the Society for the Study of the Legal Aspects of Sport and Physical Activity. In his free time, Anderson enjoys reading science fiction, writing, and watching and participating in various sports. He and his wife and daughters reside in Milwaukee. Daniel P. Connaughton, EdD, is a professor in the sport management program and an associate dean in the College of Health and Human Performance at the University of Florida. His teaching and research are focused on the study of law and risk management in sport and physical activity programs. A frequent conference presenter and author of many publications, Connaughton has received several teaching and research awards. The American Heart Association has funded his research investigating implementation constraints and risk management practices related to automated external defibrillators in sport and recreation programs. Since 2008 he has served as the principal investigator of the Bicycle Safety and Risk Management Project, which is funded by the Florida Department of Transportation Safety Office. Connaughton is a research fellow with the Sport and Recreation Law Association and Research Consortium of SHAPE America. With an educational background in exercise and sport sciences, Connaughton also holds advanced degrees in recreation administration (University of Florida), physical education (Bridgewater State College), and sport management (Florida State University). Connaughton has held management positions in campus and public recreation departments, aquatic facilities, and health and fitness programs. He holds several professional certifications and frequently serves as a consultant and expert witness in sport and physical activity-related lawsuits. In his free time, Connaughton enjoys cycling, running, and traveling. He resides in Gainesville. Thomas A. Baker III, JD, PhD, is a commercial litigator turned associate professor in the sport management and policy program at the University of Georgia. He conducts research in sport management that focuses on the application of the law to sport. Within that focus he specializes in how commercial laws influence sport marketing, such as legal issues concerning brand management and the use of social media in sport marketing. Additionally, he conducts risk management research focused on preventing sexual abuse in sport, and terrorism management at sports facilities. He is also editor in chief of the Journal of Legal Aspects of Sport. Dr. Baker received his PhD in sport management from the University of Florida, where he was a Dr. Charles W. LaPradd PhD fellow and earned the Clifford A. Boyd Graduate Scholarship Award and the Norma M. Leavitt Scholarship. He earned his JD from Loyola University New Orleans School of Law, where he graduated in the top 10 percent of his class (cum laude) earning the distinction of William L. Crowe Sr. Scholar.

This book is supposed to include 87 case studies. Naturally this is a part of the course, so borrowing this book is useless because the case studies are NOT included. The "key code" for them has been used and no new key code was given to me. When I contacted Human Kinetics (the company who published the book), they said Amazon needs to give out the new key code. What a sham this all is. We're STUDENTS. We shouldn't get a book only to discover it's only half the book.

This is a very useful overview of the several branches of law as they apply to sport and recreation. It includes a chapter on risk management; though I would suggest further reading specific to that subject for the sport manager.
